Photography Competition

Interested in nature and photography? If so, then this is the competition for you! Help celebrate beautiful greens, gardens, and wildlife by showing us your best nature photograph. The competition will be open from September 14, 2022 to April 19, 2023. The top winner will receive $250, the second place winner will receive $175, and the third place winner will receive $95. Due to the pandemic, we will accept photos that have been taken between 2017 and 2023.
While other competitions may allow complete freedom in digital editing, this competition aims to show a truthful depiction of the natural world. By participating in the competition, you agree to the following rules:

Must be a Brown University student, faculty member, or staff member

Only one photo can be submitted

Submit a picture of one of the following
-
Natural world: plants, landscapes, fungi, bacteria, geological or climatological features

Wildlife: mammals, birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles, invertebrates

Scientific endeavors: people in nature

Nature Gap: inequities in nature exposure

Minor adjustments are allowed, including dodging and burning, sharpening, contrast, toning, slight color adjustment, dust spot and flare corrections, image stacking/averaging, focus stacking, creating panoramas, and conversion to grayscale

Cropped photos are eligible

For a photo in which a person is recognizable, photographers must be prepared to provide the model’s written consent

Digitally enhanced or altered photos are not allowed, including the addition and subtraction of objects from the original scene

Distorting existing elements is not allowed. For example, stretching an element to make it appear more dramatic

Combining images is not allowed

Adding light to a part of a scene where light did not exist is not allowed

Photos that contain objectionable or inappropriate content are not allowed

Baiting of wildlife is not allowed
Deadline
The contest begins on September 14, 2022 at 12:00 AM. All entries must be received by April 19, 2023 at 11:59 PM.

Judging
Submissions will be assessed by judges from the Roger Williams Park Conservancy, the Audubon Society of RI, and ParksRx.
